Sound available only after scanning for new hardware

Hi there

I have this new ASUS S400 vivobook and since day 1 there is no sound coming out of the speakers when they are not used for 5 min or so.
I have tried the following actions one at a time but without fixing the problem:
  • Updating "audio inputs and outputs", "sound, video and game controllers" and "high definition audio controller" from the device manager
  • disabling bluetooth audio or intel audio
  • unchecked "exclusive mode" on speaker's properties under "advanced" tab.
  • selected playback through speakers on mic's properties under "listen" tab.

The only action that wakes up my speakers is to scan for new hardware in "audio inputs and outputs" but THIS ONLY WORKS TEMPORARILY SINCE AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF NOT USING THE SPEAKERS THEY GO BACK IN A "COMA"

My pc is running windows 8 and Realtek audio software.

ANY KIND SUGGESTIONS TO FIND A PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS? HELP PLEASE!

As this is "new", it should still be under warranty. Best to contact ASUS, if there is a hardware problem only ASUS can get it taken care of under warranty.

It may also take a complete reinstall, as there may be Windows corruptions. But again as this is "new" best to contact the PC Vendor.

However, one issue in your description. You say you have RealTek audio, but you note "High Definition Audio Controller" which suggests the generic, basic function, Windows installed sound driver. If this is the case that could be a problem. Go to the Device Manager and display the contents of the Sound Section. If you have RealTek you should only have the RealTek and possibly a sound driver for HDMI Audio, if you have that.

Thanks firebird!

I purchased the pc less than a month ago but I would like to avoid ASUS as they don't have a repair center in my country and my laptop would have to be sent away to another country for a week or so.

Concerning the sound driver, here are the relevant entries in the device manager:
  • Audio inputs and outputs
    • microphone (Realtek High Definition Audio)
    • speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)

  • Sound, Video and Games Controllers
    • Bluetooth Audio Device
    • Intel (R) Display Audio
    • Realtek High Definition Audio
  • System Devices
    • High Definition Audio Controller
Would you say that there seems to be a conflict or something missing?

Thanks

Forgot to mention that whenever the speakers don't work and I go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback to test the speakers, upon clicking "test" I receive the following message: "The device is being used by another application. Please close any devices that are playing audio to this device and try again".
Does this make any sense?

Disable the Intel Display Audio (Audio for HDM) in the Device Manager. Restart the PC and then see what happens.
