I did, yeah. The above didn't work also :\ it installs normally as by your instructions, but it still doesn't recognize any audio devices..

    Alright, apply this:

    1. Open cmd.exe with Administrator rights
    2. Type in:
    "secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose"
    3. Restart your computer when the process completes

    -----------

Not sure if any of those infs are proper for you, but try them all again after applying the above fix from this post, if necessary.

Try any combinations of installing the driver, then applying the command. Rebooting. Trial and error type of thing. It should go one way or another.

    Win 8 64 bit
    Asus MB
    Core i7 930

    Sound card Creative SB X-fi
    Drivers = SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0013.exe

    -------------------------------------------------

    Problem:

The drivers install and play fine. BUT, every once in a while, the sound stops. I've tried to look into the issue with troubleshooting but nothing is apparently wrong. I have to re install the drivers for the sound in the PC to work.

This has happened at least 4 times sine I began experimenting with Win 8 a few weeks ago. Again, I can't put my finger on the problem.

It is also not an issue of installing a new program that may or may not affect the drivers because the last time it happened, nothing had been installed when the sound went out.

Perhaps it is a driver issue, since these drivers were/are not for Win 8.

mcquiker, do you have a wireless adapter installed? If so, which is the exact name in the device manager?

I have never installed a wireless card/adapter in my PC. My internet is hardwired.

Cool, I hear that. Just grasping at straws for ya. Does the sound stop all on its own?

And why do you have to re-install the driver?...meaning, what is the error if you don't? Does it make any crazy sounds, just not play, throw up an error box at all?

Actually, I do have a keyboard K350 /mouse M510 from Logitech with a wireless unifying USB receiver.

    No, it just stops working.

I had the same set up under Win 7 and never had a problem.

Hey ya, that M510 is a good one. I'm using it right now too. I don't think that has anything to do with it since the latest driver is very good and has no issues at all.

Hi GMan, I apologize for not replying earlier, but the sound is fixed with the cmd entry you provided! Even though just 2 out of 3 speakers work, but regardless thank you very much for your help!

    Windows 8 Consumer Preview (32bit)

    Hi,
    Another hi-jacker here
I have just upgraded to Win 8 CP (32 bit) from Win XP (32 bit) and can't get my sound blaster x-fi xtreme audio card working...
I tried following the steps earlier in the thread but no success. I have tried the latest drivers but get the same error message as the original poster.
Is there anything you can suggest Gman?
Many thanks for any response in advance!
