Can't get any headset or headphones with mic to work

    Hello all.

Unfortunately I have an issue that has been causing me much frustration over the past few days.

Here's the deal, I have a pair of headphones, with a microphone, and a headset that I use for my PS4, both with 3.5mm jacks, that I want to use as a microphone for my laptop, as opposed to the garbage built in webcam one.

However, having tried both of them in the microphone jack on my laptop, I can't record any sound. Yes I am plugging them into the correct jack, and yes they are recognized by the computer and sound menu of the control panel as microphones.

However, they will not record ANY sound, even with the recording level turned up all the way. I have even acquired a 3.5mm to USB converter, and tried plugging them in, but I get the same results.

Hopefully someone can help me fix this soon..

    Thanks

I have the exact same problem. Literally. Recently bought a microphone for my Playstation 4. It works fine on there and on my other devices, however when I plug it into the microphone jack on my PC (Windows 8.1) and speak into it, nothing happens - it doesn't recognise any audio input. I've attempted countless solutions, clicked on (realistically) hundreds of various links to try and sort this out but I still have the problem. If a solution could be proposed that would be much appreciated.

    brookeblood1,

I know it sounds weird but try speaking into the ear cup (I think that's the name for it) where the noise outputs on the headset. Sounds weird I know but it detects my voice when I speak into it. Obviously I don't want to speak into the ear cup every time I want to speak so if somebody can find a fix that'd be great.

What kind of plug is on the headset? Does it have separate 3.5mm (1/8") stereo plugs (with tip (ring) middle (ring) barren (sleeve) or is it one with four sections on the jack (like is used in an iPhone5)?

    Stereo Plug

PS4/Iphone type plug, which will not work. You will need an adapter plug for separate headset and microphone.

That's because of how it is connected in that PS4 connector, in relation to the Mic input on the PC. An earphone can become a "mic", although not a good one. Get the PS4 to two standard 3.5mm stereo plug adapter and then you can use the mic and headphone properly. Or, just get a standard PC headphone with mic (a better option).

Can you take some shots of everything you have and where you're wanting to plug them into, then post them?
