    Realtek or AMD Audio Driver

What would be a better option for a Sound Driver? I used to have "Realtek High Definition Audio Codec" when I used Windows 7, but a few months ago I installed Windows 8.1 and just kept the generic "AMD High Definition Audio Device". Haven't really noticed that much of a difference. That's why I want your guy's opinion based on AMD vs. Realtek - (Quality, Performance, etc.)

    Thanks!

Realtek is for the onboard high definition audio codec built onto the motherboard. It is what you use when simply using a desktop or laptop.

AMD is the audio driver for HDMI, for when you have a tv attached to the computer or desktop. This driver is installed along with the video driver itself.

You should download/install the latest Realtek HD driver from their site.

Just tried installing the latest Realtek HD Driver from their website and I get this error message:

Any idea what's causing this? I made sure it is for Windows 8.1.

Nope, no idea. Maybe you don't have Realtek at all or Realtek HD.

Could be Realtek AC'97 (especially if older board) or some other.

Since you make/model and/or motherboard information is unknown, try going to the manufacturer's website and look for a compatible 8.1 audio driver.

Only odd thing is that when I had Windows 7 & Realtek installed, I still have the same Motherboard as I do now. So I don't know what's causing it to error when installing.

Longshot here. Try uninstalling the existing audio driver completely, reboot to make sure it is uninstalled, and then check Windows Update for an optional audio driver update.

Google the error code and follow what you find. The method with safe mode etc and all that good stuff will fix it.
