Steam interferes with Windows 8 app volume

Every time I use a music app like clouder! or the music app in general, Steam always lowers the volume of the app while it runs in the background. I know it's Steam because the split second I exit Steam, it turns back up. The "Communications" tab is set to do nothing when Windows detects communication activity. I've also set my Steam to push-to-talk, still nothing. How do I keep Steam from doing this?

I was in the same situation, set Communication to do nothing, push to talk in steam, maxed receive volume in steam, every thing out there. Then I decided to try again killing audiodg.exe (it's a service called "Windows audio device graph isolation") you can find it in 'Task Manager' under 'Details' and kill it, or under 'Services' and stop it (be careful that it needs to be set on auto start for what I did to work or you need to start it manually your self again). I recommend killing the .exe in 'Details' though (faster) also note that this didn't work for me first try, have no idea why. After you kill the .exe the sound will stop. Switch back to the music app and press play (or restart the music app if it's stubborn) this should start again the audiodg.exe service, and sound should work again (this solved it for me, down side, have to do it every time I restart the computer).
Now some people report that this is not enough and they got it solved after also killing WWAHost.exe (note this is the 'javawrapper' host for metro apps so I guess this applies only if you are using a Metro app, also note that killing this WILL CLOSE any metro app opened, you will need to re-open it, no worries, it will auto start as soon as it's needed normally, probably even when you open the metro start interface ).

    Hope this helps,
    Cosmin.
