Updated to 8.1, now audio fades in and out. (FIXED)

This happened the first time I started this pc. When 2 applications would play sound, one would be almost muted. It's really annoying, but after an hour of poking in the settings it fixed itself. I updated to 8.1, but the problem is back. YES: I have tried doing the stupid "do nothing when windows gets communications" and it DOES NOT WORK. Everywhere I've asked that's the answer I get. here is an example of what happens. (VOLUME WARNING) Audio Glitch - YouTube

    Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure I understand your problem. Is it that "2 applications would play sound" mean that you are using two applications that play sound at the same time? (which can conflict).

    Please clarify.

However, there have been some sporadic problems with audio for those that have upgraded to 8.1. Sometimes installing the latest sound driver from the PC vendor fixes it. (Do not use the generic basic function Windows installed HD Audio Codec unless that is the only choice).

I have a recording studio and do a lot of audio, but I've never tried two programs with audio at the same time. Strange things potentially can happen with both trying to access the sound at the same time.

One thing, however, that may help is to have the Stereo Mix enabled as the default recording device. That is needed for recording streaming audio from the internet, for one thing. It may have something to do with playback in your case (wild guess). I notice it is not shown in the RealTek HD Manager, in your picture.

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel, Recording Section. Set the Stereo Mix as the default recording device (if not set). If the Stereo Mix is not shown, RIGHT click in an empty spot in that panel then click to show Disabled and Disconnected Devices. Stereo Mix should now be shown, enable it and make it the default recording device.

A comment on your memory. 12gb is more than enough for practically anything you are going to do. I have 16GB in my recording studio system and even with a lot of tracks, plug ins and MIDI tracks I've never been over 8GB of memory.

The audio mixer thing does not help. What does that thing even do anyway? I tried turning off the "let applications take priority" and DC offset or whatever.

I want to upgrade my memory because I have really mismatched sources and sometimes I get memory errors.

EDIT: FIXED. Updated all audio drivers and restarted PC.
