    Lenovo G580 audio problem

    Hello.

I have a Lenovo G580 with Windows 8. I have a weird problem with audio. If the default audio is set as internal speakers and I plug in my headphones the sound just keeps coming from the internal speakers. But if I set the headphones as default, I can switch between the speakers and headphones as I want and there is no problem if only I play music from my computer.

If I try to play something from my browser, however, the sound only comes from the internal speakers and connecting the headphones does nothing. Except (and this is where it gets weird) if I play something from my computer first using the headphones. Then I can play anything from the browser and hear it through the headphones as long as I don't plug them out. If I plug them out, the sound switches back to the internal speakers and trying to plug in the headphones again doesn't do anything. So I have to play something from my computer again with the headphones plugged in and then switch to my browser to again play everything through my headphones.

What's wrong with it? Any way to make it work as it should work?

Hi lenny111, first question would be what make of audio chip and have you downloaded the latest 8.1 drivers?

I don't know what the chip is, but it uses the Conexant drivers and they are up to date.

(Wild guess) Any chance you have your audio configured to something other than 2 stereo speakers?

Control Panel> Sound> Select Speakers and click Configure (button)

Also, are your Headphones shown as "ready?"

Just to support popeye's previous recommendation, all of your drivers are here:

Update: The problem seems to be exclusively in Firefox. All works as it should in Explorer and Google Chrome.

Thanks for the suggestions, though: It's set to 2 speakers. They are shown as ready. That's the place where I went for the drivers too.

Firefox? very strange indeed! So, what version of FF are you using? The latest appears to be FF25.0 and there is also a flash update available as well (if you have not already installed it):

So, did you just discover this issue after updating to a newer version of FF or Flash? Can you confirm if it ever worked before when using FF?

This is also very interesting if you recently upgraded to FF25:

Mozilla releases Firefox 25, includes Web Audio support

    I wonder?...

Sorry for the delay. I tried different versions of Flash, which didn't help much. Then I decided to try out different versions of Firefox. First one tried was 24. And that did the trick! Everything works as it should now. Thanks everyone!
