If you are using a External Mic separate from a video camera, it may have very sensitive to noise picking up sounds around you. If you are using a built-in Mic from a camera, most likely it will pickup background noise as well due to it not have noise cancellation technology. Basically there is no way you will be able to disable background noise unless there is no background noise. Hope I answered your question.

Use a headset , it won't stop them hearing external sounds around you , but it will cut down on what they hear as the microphone is more directional.

Go into Control Panel and open the Sound options, select the Recording tab and then right click the mic you are using and select properties. Next, select the listen tab and un-check "Listen to this device" and then apply the changes and press ok. Now, the person you are talking to shouldn't be able to hear your music :). Hope this solves your problem, sorry I didn't mention this earlier, thought it was a different issue.

Well, then all I can say is do not have any music playing while you're using VoIP. Sorry that my advice did not fix your issue. Hope it clears up for you soon!
