I need to sleep to enable sound in external speakers

Hi,
My problem is that I have to use 'sleep' option to enable sound in external speakers (the builtin Asus laptop's speakers work). I have to do it always after starting Windows 8. It's a dualboot system with Linux, so I had to disable faststartup and hibernate options the below way: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/6320-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-8-a.html

I'm not sure if this is the reason, bacause I rarely use Windows. It's Windows 64b. I use Realtek drivers provided by Asus and also tried to remove them (so the ones that come with Windows work I guess) but it doesn't work too.
I'd appreciate any suggestions...

First, the ASUS supplied drivers should be used. The Windows installed sound drivers are only basic function drivers.

Check what is shown installed in the Device Manager for the Sound. You should only have the RealTek and possibly HDMI (If you have HDMI capability). If there is anything else installed there, such as the Windows HD Audio Codec, uninstall that (and then restart the PC after you uninstall).

The external speakers, I assume, are being plugged into the headphone jack.

It sounds like some other program has the sound "captured" and restarting (or sleep/restart) is freeing it up. If you have any other program running such as Skype, temporarily disable that and see if you still have the problem.

Device Manager shows Realtek and HDAD in 'Sound, video and game controllers'.

Yes, it's heaphone's lineout jack.

I don't use Skype or anything like this, there's not many things installed as it is quite fresh installation.

And, btw, restarting computer doesn't help - it's actually the source of the problem, because sound is working without problems but it's broken when I restart. The only thing that helps is to go 'Sleep' option and back. It's not very problematic but I have to do it every time I start system...

Uninstall the HDAD in the sound. It shouldn't be there and can cause conflicts.

However, you should have an HDMI audio entry for the NVIDIA video (assuming you have what is shown on the web site for this model).

There should be two entries, one for the HDMI audio and one for the PC audio (RealTek).

[DEL]I wonder what model do you check, I didn't post the information...[/DEL] It's HD4000+Geforce model - maybe that's the reason it's not on the list?

Will remove it and post what's the result. I thought the HDAD is the HDMI driver that you mentioned.

EDIT:
It didn't help. Still no sound in external speakers after restart. Also, HDAD was automatically reinstalled after restart.

HD4000 would be the Intel graphics (graphics built into the Intel CPU). GeForce Is NVIDA graphics.

Right click your sound icon, select playback devices and tell us what is your default playback device. It should be your realtek speaker...if anything else is checked, then there's your problem.

With the dual boot setup you have, what is the primary OS? Does it use windows to give the the choice of boot options or is it your linux version. I mean when you first turn on your PC is it the linux boot mgr that you see or windows boot mgr?

You could try running "sfc /scannow" with out the quotes in a cmd prompt for corrupt or missing system files.

I use Linux Grub2 bootloader as deafault, but I don't start Windows 8 using it. When I need to run Windows 8 I just press ESC (or go to BIOS) and choose Windows.

"sfc /scannow" result:
Code:
C:\Windows\system32>sfc.exe /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot.
