Microphone volume very low

Hi. Before I start, yes, I have searched the forum for this issue before. I've done possibly everything everyone has said and still no fix.

I've read that you have to go to Communications in the Sound window, and select Do nothing. That doesn't work.

I've read that you have to go to the microphone, double click on it, go to the levels tab, and move the lever all the way up, as long as the boost lever. I don't have the boost. Only the microphone is present as you can see in the screenshot. That doesn't work.

I just downloaded Windows 8 last Thursday so all of my updates are installed. I updated to the latest drivers for my sound card thing, which I guess is intergrated. Now, before you tell me it's my mic, before Windows 8 I was using xubuntu until I could afford Windows 8. My microphone was fine. It picked up great. I could hide it behind my monitor (which is atleast 3 or 4 feet away) and it would still pick up fine. Now in order for it to pickup my voice like it did behind the monitor I have to have it literally 1 cm away. I honestly don't know what to do anymore.

If you'd like to hear some example of how it works now, please feel free to listen to the links below. I'll show what they sound like next to my face and then what it sounds like where I use to have my mic. Please note that the voice isn't really my real one, just a mock-up one.

Thanks for any help.

The first question, do you have the proper sound driver installed? The PC Vendor (or motherboard in a custom system) sound driver is the preferred. If you have "High Definition Audio" installed that normally says it is only the basic function generic Windows installed sound driver and not the correct driver.

Hi,

I've filled in my system specs. I went to the gigabyte website and installed the drivers and still no progress.

Since you have a HDMI TV, that says HDMI is being set as default audio playback device (unless you manually change ever time you reboot the PC). This may be what is affecting the mic.

Try working only with the PC's sound card (set Speakers as default audio playback device) and see if you still have the problem.

My headphones are currently the default playback device. It automatically boots into this mode and I've only had to change this the first day I had Windows 8. I'm still having this problem and have tried setting both the TV and the headphones as the default device.

Is it actually recording low or just that its low in the speakers as you use the mic? Or, is it low in some program such as Skype?

Yeah, it's low in programs like Teamspeak and Skype. I've tried to manually set the microphone volume in each program but it's still low.

I don't have or use either program so I can't help you with those.
