I need to use StereoMix and my headphones built in mic at the same time. The problem is IF StereoMix is enabled, only the PC's internal Mic is activated. I cannot activate my headphones mic unless i disable the StereoMix device first.

Normally, that is not the case. If you have Stereo Mix set as the default recording device (not just "enabled") then any input, e.g. internal or external mic is also activated (heard).

Are you using the HP supplied audio driver?

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm using the driver that came with the laptop. I set StereoMix to Default Device and suddenly the headphone Mic becomes " Unavailable". I MUST make this work even if I have to jump through a lot of hoops or install a copy of Windows 7.

Do you have anymore thoughts on the matter?

Go to the Device Manager and see what you have listed for Sound, Video and Game Controllers, You should only have the IDT audio and possibly AMD (HDMI) audio, if you have HDMI capability. If you have anything else, that may be conflicting and causing the problems. If there is anything other than the two entries, RIGHT click to highlight the device and the LEFT click Uninstall. Restart the PC and see if this fixes it.

If there are no entries other than the iDT and AMD, the problem MAY be a corruption in Windows for the sound. Uninstalling the audio device and then a reinstall will correct any corruptions. Uninstall the IDT audio, in the device manager (same procedure as listed for an extra item) then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. See if this fixes it.

If still bad, reinstall the HP provided sound driver and give that a try.

Under Device manager there are only the AMD High definition audio and the IDT High definition audio listed. I have tried all your suggestions above even uninstalling the IDT driver and it's software and reinstalling them. I still get the same results with no change no matter what step i took.

Thanks for trying. If you have any more thoughts I'll try em.
