I have spent hours installing and uninstalling drivers from the Toshiba and Intel sites. Tech support said to return it but I have just spent 2 days installing software. I never took a break to watch Netflix. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

The video is apparently not detecting the HDMI cable. Assuming you have a good HDMI cable it suggests a hardware problem in the new PC.

Thanks for your response. I would agree where the problem not widespread. I find it hard to believe that there are so many malfunctioning pc's. I'm going to give it a few more days and then return it.

Is there a good way to save all of the work I've done?

As fast as PC's are produced, anymore, I'm surprised there isn't more "bad" ones. They don't do the "burn in" like they used to do and that results in less quality control.

Reinstalling the Video drivers, from the PC vendor, is about the only other thing you can try.

Reinstalling the Video drivers, from the PC vendor, is about the only other thing you can try. The "High Definition Audio Device" for the HDMI suggests the proper driver is not installed and only the generic Windows installed (basic function) driver has been installed.

I've gone to the Toshiba site and downloaded numerous drivers and when I get to the install point they all say that my computer does not meet minimum requirements - see the attached screen shots.

I find this pretty amazing as the process begins with my entering my pc's serial # - you would expect the correct drivers to be listed. Really bad website design, really bad support. The phone support is non-existent - they want to charge me!

I had a Toshiba 10 years ago that was a dream - then a nightmare Dell - now I have a problematic Toshiba.

I will keep trying earlier drivers. I've already tried the ones from the Intel site - they either don't fix the problem or don't install.

Any further thoughts? Please! Thanks again for your help.

All HDMI cables are not created equal. I bought a cheapie trying to save a few bucks and I had sound and resolution problems. I kept getting "unknown timing" errors until I bought a good quality cable. The cable I had was fine on my full sized laptop but gave me problems with a netbook. A new cable solved the problem.

Thanks so much - I'll try a friend's cable before I buy a new one. Actually - I'll also try another TV while I'm at it! Thank you again!

Since this apparently has Intel video, you can go to the Intel site, let it scan the PC hardware (it will install a temporary program for scanning the PC) and then install the driver direct from Intel.

You said you had video but no sound. When you look at your sound playback do you have the device listed there? My TV shows up as TOSHIBA-TV. I had to set the device as the default sound to get it to work. (See Sound picture)

Also you can try changing your screen resolution to see if you get sound using a different screen resolution. I don't know why it would have any effect on the sound but based on my troubleshooting I was able to get sound at some lower resolution with my netbook that was having the problems. (See resolution Picture)

These screenshots are from my Win7 desktop. The Netbook I was having problems is Win8 Pro.
