    Sound's fading in and out.


    I've just gotten this Desktop recently with windows 8 pre-installed.
    I've started to notice that sounds fades in and out with both video games and videos, such as youtube, etc. I haven't noticed it with windows media player yet but it seems to be happening very often with the game Guild Wars 2. I believe it's not related to the game, considering youtube is also affected.
    I have a razer black widow keyboard that's plugged into my desktop and my headset is plugged into the keyboard, if that's relevant. I have no idea what the issue is, honestly. Any help would be amazing, thank you.

    I assume you have a USB headset. You didn't fill in the "My System Specs" so all we can do is guess or offer general suggestions.

    But, if it is a USB headset, plug it directly into the PC and see if that makes any difference.

    Youtube use the flash player. I don't know what the game uses.

    What info do you need then exactly? It's saying my sound device in dxdiag are Speakers (Conexant SmartAudio HD)
    And it's not usb headphones, they have a separate audio and microphone jack in them. I've tried the front and back ports for them with the same issue.
    Also when I look in my sound/audio input in the device manager the only driver it has installed, aside from a rear microphone, are a speaker driver. Could that be the issue since I switch from a headset to a set of speakers occasionally?

    The My Computer Specs is the PC Manufacturer, Model Number, or in the case of a custom/home built, the Motherboard manufacturer and Model number, along with other hardware info.

    The fact you have Conexant audio helps, but is not the only item. Also since the headphone/mic are analog and not USB that also eliminates one issue.

    You mention headphones, do you also have regular PC speakers? Does it do it with the PC speakers?

    The "Speakers" is the default audio playback device, which would be the Conexent.

    Manufacturer is dell, the model number I'm not sure on. I can see the service tag and express service code on the top, but checking the bottom isn't very easy with where it's at. If you need it, I can give it a shot though. The processor is Intel Core i5 3330, motherboard is intel ivy bridge 09, I think that's what you're looking for. 8 gigs of RAM DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 for graphics, and for sound cards it lists Conexant SmartAudio HD, Intel Display Audio, and NVIDIA High Definition Audio. I'm using speccy to find everything so I think I got everything correct.

    It's not custom built either.

    It doesn't seem to do it with the speakers. Just the headphones.

    That helps, although usually the model number is on the front. This sounds like an Inspiron model, if its a desktop, such as a 620 or 620S. The actual model number would really help more. I used to do a lot of user support on the Dell forums.

    DO NOT post the service tag number, Dell considers that personal and private.

    Since the speakers work OK, plug the headphone into the GREEN speaker jack on the rear and see if you get the same changing with the headphone. If you do, the problem is in the headphones and not the PC.

    I really don't think it's the headphones. I tried with 3 different sets of headphones and nothing seemed to fix it.
    The sound went just fine for 5 minutes or so, then I alt tabbed to pull up teamspeak and the issue started again. :/
    Figured it out. The issue is Teamspeak. I closed it, volume became fine. Second I pulled it back up the problem continued again. Now I'm trying to figure out what's going on with TS, it's never done this before.

    this sounds similar to the problem im having. is it any thing like this? -----> Random Volume Fluctuations, that is if it's still continuing after playing with TS

    I love people that harass for this sort of thing when its totally irrelevent. Soo... how much ram he has and/or which made/model his cpu is has absolutely ANYTHING to do w/ his audio fading in and out? Sigh.

    Yes this is old, yes I necro'd (wtf does that even mean?) but its a pet peeve and this was the first opportunity I had to post since Im currently digging for a resolution to the same/similar issue.

    I have a pair of 200$ headphones on a 10k pc so my cpu/ram/gpu/mobo isnt going to help anyone just ftr. Onboard sound being realtek and windows 8.1 being retarded are going to be the root of the issue(s). Just have to find out whats doing it and where.

    I had assumed the mic was picking up audio and halfing all other sources of sound like mumble will do if you speak while gaming. Alas, mic is off and I cant find anywhere within windows where that is an option anyhow.

    Sorry OP - cant help ya cause i cant help myself atm :P Course theirs the fact your post is almost a year old so im sure its long rectified anyhow :P

    Hey, I know this is old, but in case anyone is wondering, this is exactly the issue that I was having, and Klepp0906's instinct was correct.

    Right click the speaker icon on the taskbar
    Click "Playback Devices"
    You should get a screen titled "Sound"
    Click the communication tab
    There is a set of radio buttons titled: "When windows detects communication activity:"

    Select the "Do Nothing" option.

    Edit: The issue was present for me if the mic was on or not. A little concerning to say the least...

    This fixed the issue for me. Hope it helps someone else.
