Annoying time lag on monitoring live recording

I have run a cross a highly annoying feature with the Windows 8 OS that did not exist in Vista... It is impossible to monitor a line in or Mic recording with out being subjected to a significant sound delay... Being a musician this makes my work impossible... Is the issue with the OS ??? How can I get rid of this with out replacing my sound card (Current (IDT) I believe the old one was a Realtek or going to a retro OS such as XP or Vista... Windows 8 is full of annoying redundant features but this is by far has been the hardest to try and resolve....

Check your speaker properties and make sure that in your playback and your recording devices settings that audio enhancements are disabled, they may be causing the delay..

There are no audio enhancements under speaker properties and play back or recording devices to disable... I've done some investigating and found that this is was also a major problem with Windows 7... Vista was the last Microsoft OS that was free of this problem... I have come up with a temporary solution by putting a splitter on the line from the recording source to the line in on the PC and attaching a set of headphones, this enables me to hear what I am recording in real time but then in order to hear both playback and recording source during multi-tracking I have to remove the phones from one ear to hear... I'm looking for a permanent fix...

Clicking the listen to this device tab is the only way to hear sounds while they are being being recorded, but there is a significant delay... click that tab off and you hear nothing from the recording source at all... I believe I explained that in my first post...

I too have same problem but with a TV card, it lags by about 1 second when viewing live. Lowering sound quality did help a bit but I guess it is not an option for you, give it a try just to see if that helps. When watching movies or listening, it is right on.
PS. Just tried something and looks like it worked. Turned on Speaker Fill in the Speaker properties panel.

I gave up on Realtek drivers and am using MS drivers now. Before I used R271 drivers but things got even worse.
Looks like you should maybe go back to Atari ST if they can't fix the problem. Why don't you give standard Win drivers a shot, maybe lack of Speaker Fill option could be attributed to that. Looks like that fixed my problem but now I can't use noise and echo canceling, although it works in Skype, always something.
Long time ago I used Atari ST for music editing and there's a nice studio around here that uses bunch of STs.
