Does not recognize my Airport Extreme or Express even though they are working fine and recognized by my iMac in the other room. I currently stream iTunes via the iMac, but would prefer to use my Windows 8 machine. But, so far, no go with Airport and iTunes does not have a speaker selector (probably cuz Airport not working).

Is 5.6.1 not Windows 8 compatible? If not, is there a more recent version?

I thought Airport was a MAC OS only application?

Doing a google search I saw several posts of problems with the 5.6.1 version, installing in Mountain Lion. No mention of problems with Windows.

I dunno. I just uninstalled 5.6.1 and installed this version, instead (Download AirPort Utility 5.5.3.2 for Windows 8/7/Vista/XP) but it still doesn't work and it tells me there is a newer version (5.6.1) duh?

The website looks like it's for Windows pc'S but maybe it's just for Macs with Windows capability.

AirPort Utility does exist for Windows systems and has for many years. You can find the download for it here: AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows

HOWEVER, I have not been able to get 5.6.1 to work on my Windows 8 Lenovo Idea Pad Yoga 11s, but it does work on my Windows 7 Desktop.

The fact that there isn't an update for Windows 8 leads me to believe that there will hopefully be an update soon.

As to why I would have an AirPort in my house - until recently, I was a Mac user. You can read about my transition from Mac to Windows here:

Highly unusual that it runs in 7 but not in 8.

Did you try to install it in compatibility mode?

I started to read your 12 Month Windows. Interesting.
