My Headphones will work but speakers wont.

I recently upgraded to windows 8 pro 32 bit.
For a month there were no problems.
But one sunday afternoon i was watching some movie on my laptop and suddenly the speakers stopped working.
I restarted it, but to no avail.
However my headphones still work, and so do external speakers work.

I tried reinstalling audio drivers frm the mfg's website-Didn't help.
I tried System restore to a point where i knew my speakers were working-Didn't help.
I even tried refreshing windows 8-Didn't help.

After almost a week now my speakers still do not work and only my headphones work.
If somebody have any solution to it kindly do help.

    P.S.
I recently updated Nvidia Graphics Drivers in order to play COD BO2
If it has any relevance to my problem.

    Thank You all in advance
    Jenil

Check the Sound/Playback panel. Your "speakers" should be set as the default playback device.

I have a Z560 but it has Intel, not NVIDIA graphics.

Already checked that. It is set to default! and there is an option to test the playback, when i click it, i do hear a faint sound from the bottom of the laptop where the speaker grills are! I forgot to mention this in my original post.
This does mean dat atleast my speakers are not fried, and dat something is wrong wid either the sytem or d drivers or some app.

My Z560 still has the original Windows 7 installed.

This suggests a possible hardware problem with either the speaker connection to the motherboard or possibly a hardware problem in the headphone jack.

If it was indeed a hardware problem then wouldn't the speakers nt work at all? I mean dey do work during the tests. I can clearly hear the sound of the test melody!

You are probably correct that they are still connected. However, considering what you have done that goes back to some type of hardware issue.

Go to the Device Manager and disable the HDMI Audio, which should leave only the sound card drivers (RealTek, if I remember correctly). Then check the sound.

The title pretty much says it all. I realize there are other threads out there similar to this, but their solutions either didn't work for me, or the problem wasn't quite the same. My issue is as follows: When I plug my headphones into my laptop (hp dv7t 6c000 quad) audio plays through both the...
Dear all, I've been facing an issue with my sound lately (potentially linked to the win 8.1 update - as seems to be the case of a lot of people); I'm unable to get my sound to work, and I'm getting the following error message: "No speakers or headphones are plugged in". I've been trying out a...
Hi friends, I am using Windows 8. I am facing an issue with my sound all on a sudden. The volume icon on the task bar has a red cross on it. When I hover on that it says 'No speakers or headphones plugged in' (attachment-1). When I click on the icon I get a screen like attachment-2 which...
Hello, this is really strange. Whenever I unplug the speakers jack and plug in the headphones, the sound stops! I have to restart the application or run another one and then the sound is back. I have 2 speakers plugged in on m motherboards audio jacks, and my G110 keyboard has sound card of it's own built in. I was wondering if there was any way to set it up the way I want it, or something similar to it. The keyboard has a headphone mute button of its own. So I was thinking that I...
