Just bought a pair of Turtle beach ear force Z2 today at walmart it has the pink and green connectors for headphones and microphone. The headphones work great except the microphone doesn't work. When I plug in the pink microphone cord the windows does it's default noise acknowledging that I pluged it in and sees it is a microphone but all I get is static and it wont record. I'm running Windows 8 X64 my sound drivers are up today and nothing is disabled or muted.

If this is a desktop and you are plugging into the front panel mic jack, try the rear mic jack and see if it works there.

Also, check the Sound Panel, Recording section for the mic and set the volume to max.

If it doesn't work on the rear mic jack, do you have another PC or a friend's PC that you can try it on. Could be the headset (mic) is defective.

Tried it on both my laptop and desktop. Neither worked so I got a hold of turtlebeach tech support they said there was trouble with windows 8 with that particular headset (Can't see how that is because it is plug and play without requiring special drivers.) But anyway long story short they wanted me to buy their $25 sound card thing that switched it to a USB headset. So all in all I went back to walmart and traded it and $20 for a headset that was already usb of the same brand, didn't have to wait for shipping and got what I wanted. Thanks for the help Fireberd It is appreciated.

Too bad it was a problem with the headset. But, it did get resolved.
