Speaker Problem

While playing a video or games or any app that has sound... the sound suddenly dissappears if it is too loud.
At first I thought it might be the driver... so i replaced HD Audio with Conexant... but the problem still persists,
which lead me to believe that it coild be probably the speaker's problem.
But while tweaking aroung i found that if i quit the video or the game, the sound came back to normal.
And also when the sound goes off,the green bar on the volume tray icon still keeps jumping up and down
indicating sound output.Hence audio troubleshooter was of no use.
Alnd here's the funny part, when i opened volume properties, playback devices
(a video playing in the background where the sound had gone off),as i switched between the tabs in the dialog box
(playbackrecording,sounds,communincation) the sound came back!
This cannot be due to the speaker.

I have reinstalled windows8, updated drivers and everything but no effect.
Please tell me what to do, as i cannot see movies or play games with speaker.
Also headfones and external speakers have no problem whatsoever.

Does it work ok through the headphones?

The headphone jack has a built in switch that disconnects the audio out when its connected, maybe that switch is dirty.

Plug and unplug your headphones a few times and see if the problem goes away..

Yes it works ok on headphones...tried doing what you told, but its still the same...can't figure out if its a hardware or software(driver )issue...installed ubuntu, and still same problem in it...does a speaker have persistence level(ludness), and can it be changed...it used to work perfectly alright...what could be the problem?

I remember a similar problem on a friends PC, he had 2 sound cards...

An onboard and an add-on, but disabling the onboard did not help..

I believe it was a chipset/driver issue and on top of that we did not use a windows 7 driver, i believe we used a vista driver.

What model is your sound card and what driver did you install?

The windows 7 default nor the win 7 upgraded drivers were usable..

you can download a small program called SPECCY which will show all your hardware on your system..

clickl the audio icon and it will show you all of your audio devices, you can copy and paste those results here..

in device manager when you click on sound, video, game controllers what does it say is installed? is it just generic stuff like HD audio?

and what does audio inputs and ouputs say in device manager? at the top
