I have a recording studio (using Sonar X2). Correct drivers is my first thought too. XP handles some audio functions differently than Vista/Win7/Win8 so different drivers are needed.

However, does the regular PC audio also have the problem? There have been many reports of popping/crackling in regular PC audio, that can be traced (but not limited) to bad sound drivers, video drivers, wi-fi connections, etc. Make sure all your motherboard and hardware drivers have been installed with Win 8 drivers and if they are not available Vista/Win 7 drivers. Although Windows will install some drivers, the drivers from the PC Vendor (or motherboard vendor on a custom system) are the preferred drivers.

My recording audio interfaces are a Roland Octa-Capture (primary) and an MAudio Fastrack Ultra 8R, both USB connected and both Win 8 compatible and work OK in Win 8, although Windows 7 is the OS I use with Sonar X2 (and ProTools MP9).

thankyou

Many Thanks for taking the time to consider and try to answer my question, my main problem is I'm not really that clued up on computers basically XP started to lock up when I changed my hard drives from sata to Solid state and it was suggested by the man who fixes my PC to upgrade to windows 8 as XP was probably not recognizing my new hardware I've just got it back from my repair bloke, so your comments are really helpful and I will pass them on to him soon. As far as I'm concerned I am only able to follow instructions like click this and open that I cant even download drivers . All I want to do is make music If I could go back to a tape machine I would but as you know it doesn't have the same flexibility for a solo artist. I wish some one would make a stand alone recording system, No upgrades, No crashing, NO frills a muso's dream, something for a time capsule that works .

But Hey many thanks It's probably a lot warmer where you are than over here.

Cheers Streamer.

It is obviously warmer since I'm in Florida (about 60 miles north of Tampa).
Caperjack is in Nova Scotia. I have a "snowbird" friend that left last week for Nova Scotia (and should be home by now).

My friend lives along the coast in Hubbards (near Halifax).

Kissimmee is a southern suburb of Orlando and adjacent to the Walt Disney World theme park complex.
