Could be the mic is not muted. Mute the mic and see if that fixes it.

You haven't filled in the "My System Specs" so we don't know what hardware you have. However, since the hard drive was replaced, and I assume a complete reinstall was performed, did you install the Laptop PC Vendor's sound drivers? If not, that is a good place to start.

yes,,, definitely the re install of operating system was done

i am on hp pavalion dv4 model 1506tx series laptop and the hard disk that i bought is of segate 500 gb,

and as i installed windows 8 pro 32 bit then it itself comes with the preinstalled sound drivers so i didn't bother to install sound drivers

Always use the vendors recommend dirvers for the mobo. The windows drivers are just generic drivers and might not work at all or completely. As firebird suggested, download your sound driver for your laptop directly from them.

For your harddisk double click COMPUTER

right click your windows drive (should be C:)

properties >> tools >> CHECK

---------------- For your squealing ------------------------

right click
the speaker icon on the bottom right

click recording devices

double click the microphone

click listen

and uncheck listen to this device

see if the echoing/squealing goes away..
