Yes, what type of headphones? Standard analog headphones that plug into the headphone jack? USB headphones, iPhone headphones (which won't work without an adapter).

First thing to try, plug the headphone into the rear GREEN speaker jack and see if it works there. If it does not work there, and the speakers work OK, the problem may be the headphone or the headphone jack.

If it's not the headphones, before you reinstall the sound drivers, try a uninstall/reinstall of the sound using the Device Manager. Right click on the entry for the sound and then LEFT click "uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. If there was any corruption between Windows and the sound drivers this will fix that.

Another possibility is there is a problem with the front panel headphone jack or the cabling that connects to the motherboard.

You uninstall your sound "card". You didn't fill in the full system specs so I can't give you the exact one. The most common is RealTek audio.

This also brings to mind, are you using the correct sound driver? What do you have listed for the sound? Do you have the actual sound card, such as RealTek, IDT, etc or does it just show the generic Windows installed basic function "HD Audio Codec"? If you don't have the actual sound card driver, get that from either the PC vendor or motherboard vendor for a custom built system. The vendor's drivers are the preferred drivers.

Hi, I am having the same problem with my headphones. When I had Windows 7 on last night it worked perfectly and today after installing Windows 8 they stopped working. Everything sound comes out of the laptop speakers. I have tried putting them in different ways into the jacks and then also tried an ordinary set of headphones no mic and still the same thing happens. Please help
