Hi

Im getting clicks and crackles on my audio when my PC is under moderate to heavy use. So far I have made sure all my drivers and BIOS are up to date.

My system specs are

Win 8 64
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
Intel Core i7 930
6GB DDR3 Transcend 2133MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470
Kingston 120G HyperX 3K SSD

Im also using an AudioEngine D1 DAW

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you get the noise when you use the internal PC's sound device? If the internal sound is OK, try a different USB port for the external unit.

There are issues with pops/clicks in sound, however, I haven't seen many posts about Win 8 but since Win 8 uses the same sound drivers and hardware as Win 7 I would suspect the same problems are there. There is no "one fix" for the pops/cracks, etc. Updated drivers for the sound and video are two items. Wi-Fi can cause this, a cell phone or cordless phone close by, etc.

The DPC Latency Checker program is invalid for Win 8 (they are working on an update to make it compatible) and I don't know of any other Latency check programs.

I have a recording studio (using Sonar X2) so I'm keenly aware of latency issues in recording equipment.

I forgot about LatencyMon.

Since you have a Gigabyte motherboard (so do I) did you happen to install the "Easy Tune" application? That is a major source of latency spike problems. I installed that when I first installed the new gigabyte motherboard and was getting latency spikes. A friend on another forum that builds DAW systems zeroed in on the Easy Tune as the problem. I uninstalled Easy Tune and my Latency issues went away.

Fireberd, thanks! But I never installed easy tune on my recent upgrade to Win 8. I was considering increasing my ram. When I have my normal applications I work with open, my ram usage is at around 60%. Is that very high?

Depending on what your "normal applications" are. I rarely get over 1/4 of my memory, even when running Sonar X2 (my recording studio program).
