Firstly Hi, i'm brand new. Secondly, apologies if this has already been covered.

I recently purchased a Lenovo G580 from Curry's. My main intention of use is to write and record music on some music recording software. This software hasn't arrived yet, so I was playing around with the Sound Recorder. When playing back the recording I get a weird noise, which I can only describe as sounding like it's being played underwater. It's like a wobbly, distorted noise.

I have tried using a third party sound recorder and have also used a different audio player and yet the problem persisits. Can anyone help me out with this?

Much appreciated,

R

Hi Renegade, welcome to Eight Forums!

When you're doing so, are you using the built in microphone? (I'm presuming it's a laptop, correct me if I'm wrong). If you are, it may very well be the microphone recording quality itself, try a new one maybe? That applies for headsets, microphones on their own and external recording devices.

Also, try in a VERY quiet room, play some music while recording (from an iPod or something) and see if the playback still has that sound overlay. If it does, then it's the microphone.

All good mate. :)

I do know that some laptop's built in microphones have a "distortion" problem when running Windows 7/8, as I experienced myself on my laptop a few weeks back, but it seemed to fix itself up. Can't remember the fix I used on my other machine with the same problem though.

Ah right,

I know someone mentioned 'make sure that the input isn't the output as it creates a feedback loop' not too sure what this means. But anyway I'll try that out once i'm home. Thanks for the advice.

Lmao, "output" on a microphone. If Microsoft made that an actual option... HAHAHA.

But yeah, I have heard that causes problems. Going into the sound options (can't remember off the top of my head), you can check sound devices and what their device input/output is. Might be worth the look.

On my laptop, it shows 2 devices; the speakers, and the microphone respectively.

First, try to update the sound drivers.
Drivers and software - Lenovo G580(2689) Notebooks

Also you will need to see the options in the sound; this depends what sound manufacturer (Conexant or Realtek in your case) that is and by using their software (audio settings or something like that), look for options, microphone options: sometimes damping or noise cancellation settings are available and activated (optimized for voice) and you will need to disable/change those according to what you record. Then test the micro with different settings and use what works best.

Looking on the provided link:
-Conexant Audio Driver
-Realtek Audio Driver

Choose the one you have installed.

That's it.
