Solved Sound only works in one running application at a time

Hi All,

I'm a newbie here, so sorry if I haven't done a proper search on the forum to a solution for my problem, I tried but couldn't find an exact match. I had to dump my Sound Blaster X-FI card because of the pops and crackles, which I didn't have in XP. I'll try to resolve that problem by downloading Windows 7 drivers.

So meanwhile I reverted back to the onboard sound card. Crackles and popping gone, but I can only get sound from one application at a time. For example if I run my DAW studio software sound is fine, then I switch to U-Tube, and no sound comes out from U-Tube. So it looks like it can handle only one dedicated application at a time. I can't recall this problem with Windows 98 or XP. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks a lot.

Tim

Youtube uses Flash player. If you don't have it, get it. If you have it, reinstall it.

Also, check the Sound/Recording section. The DAW software may be setting up a recording option that will not allow other sounds to come through. If not, make sure the Stereo Mix/System Mixer is set as the default recording device. This is needed for streaming audio from the internet.

I have a recording studio using Sonar X2 Producer.

Thanks for the advice Fireberd. I tried everything but no browswer sounds would work, although system sounds and FL10 worked fine. I ended up disabling the on-board sound card and re-installing the Soundblaster X-FI card. All seems to be working normally now. So far the snap, crackle and pop is gone too, even using the CPU intensive Razor soft synth. If it don't work, re-install it!

Still mystified though why no web browser sounds worked despite re-installing them and re-installing Flash, etc.

Cheers

Tim
