Change sound settings directly in the registry

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to either change the speaker settings (switch between stereo, 5.1 etc.) or, preferably, sound balance directly in the registry. Until now, I've only been able to find the key for the speaker settings:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices\Audio\Render\{...}\Properties]

However, the changes only go into effect for a particular application when the application is restarted. When I do it 'the normal way', the changes go into effect immediately.

I haven't been able to find any key for the sound balance settings.

Hoping for some suggestions... Thanks in advance!

Why u need that? You want to write script/macro? Cause if so don't look in Registry...

I've already written scripts in AutoIt, but I'd prefer to edit the registry directly. I don't know if that is possible...
