    windows media player

this all started when I noticed the audio on my new sony vaio sounding a little....flat... hunting for sound settings left me less than hopeful..

    hence the below:

ok.. I noticed windows media player is missing the equalizer in windows 8...

    its usually under plugins.

can I get that back using either of the Audio effects (DSP) plug-ins found here? Plug-ins and add-ons for Windows Media Player - Microsoft Windows

further, will either be easily uninstalled if I dont like them?

They look like they will work. Create a "System Restore" point before installing any of those, then if they don't work or you don't like how they work just run System Restore and restore back to the point you created which is before installing anything.

Actually the create a system restore point is a good idea on any download or program update. Any problems and you can easily restore the PC back to how it was before the download or program update. System Restore does not delete any user data but any programs installed (or uninstalled) after the restore date will be removed.

    Add features - Microsoft Windows

After I added Windows Media Center, which doesn't come standard on 8 like it does on 7, then I was able to see the equalizer and other enhancements in Windows Media Player. Also, you will gain the capability of playing DVD movies in Media Player. Windows Media Center is free for a short while and you can read about from the link provided.

I've got the media center loaded and I don't see any equalizer. Where is it.

You'll find that in Media Player not Media Center.

Open Media Player (NOT Center) and right-click the bottom bar - the one with the stop, start and pause bar on it, and select Enhancements.

Thanks for the help. Turns out media player must be in the Now Playing mode for the options to show up. The options are not available when in the library mode. Very strange that Microsoft would hide these settings.

Now if I can only get my Excel and Word files to load faster than 12 seconds. No solution available for that problem.
