:( Have entered a sound file in the "new mail notification" area of the "Sound" dialog box. When the "test" button is clicked the sound file plays, but when I receive mail I hear nothing not even windows default sound.

Hello shewood1,

You would just also need to set a sound file for the listed Desktop Mail Notification event. This is the new one for Windows 8 now.

Hope this helps, :)

:geek: Thanks a lot, that worked. You wouldn't know how I could get Hotmail/Outlook to sound a customized audio alert. It isn't doing anything at all for new mail notification alerts, right now.

:shock:I'm not sure what you mean by email client. This is just a web based 'hotmail' account I started in July 2011, with my very first computer. About a month ago I changed it over to the new Outlook, but I still have to sign-in with the usual hotmail email address and password, which by the way is the same as my windows live email. Maybe that could be a problem? Since I'm getting the same piece of mail at two mailboxes? At the time I opened this web based account 'hotmail', I didn't really want an email address registered as 'hotmail', it sounded a little too strange. Since, they have offered the new 'Outlook' though, I would like to open a fresh account with this one (Outlook), but I guess it isn't possible. I'm not really getting why I can't close out the 'hotmail' account and start fresh with a new 'Outlook' account, address, and password.

if you want to get email sound notifications you could start using windows live mail and set it to use your hotmail acct ,
that's what i do ,i have it set to receive email from 4 acct at the same time ,2 hotmail and 2 ISP accts . you can get it by downloading windows live ,or get it alone from filehippo site .
if you want it i will post a link if you don't want to use it dont click the link .
i can help you set it up if you wish
Download Windows Live Mail 2012 (16.4.3505) - FileHippo.com

you can get new outlook.com acct , go to hotmail.com then you need to log out , ans then go login and it will have an option on that page to create new acc lower right side , or go to link and put in the new infor for new outlook acct ,good luck

edit ,i just set one up in about 3 minutes
