When using windows 8 you should make sure you have the proper drivers installed.
I'll have to redirect you to this topic:

When the driver installation is complete, you will need to set your audio settings again in the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel (Classic View) I think i have done this but just to be safe is there any way you could help me step by step? because i am still having problems with sound.

    Which should be good enough.

Now, there still seems to be a conflict. I'm going to help you through the steps that I would go through.

    Okay.. Let's begin..

    1. Go to 'Device Manager' and delete all sound related drivers, you said you had AMD drivers, delete all the drivers related to AMD too.
You can do this by rightclicking the devices and press uninstall.
Since you are also deleting your amd drivers, there might be a misfunction of your graphics driver when you do this. This is normal.

    2. download and install this baby:
    Thank you for downloading

    3. start Driver Fusion with admin rights.

    4. On the left there's a row with drivers, delete all audio and amd related drivers.

    5. The program will ask you to reboot, it's easier to reboot after you removed all the drivers instead of just one.

    6. Let's reinstall that audio driver of yours:
Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version for Windows 8

    7. Reboot after the installation (as you have noticed, it asks you to reboot)

    8. reinstall the Catalyst control center (AMD graphics & HDMI driver)
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/auto/amd...downloader.exe

    9. Use the express settings

    10. Reboot after you installed the Catalyst Control Center and the drivers it provides.

There! Everything should be working now.

btw, you should've told us it was an upgrade instead of a clean install. There are always conflicting drivers with an upgraded windows 8.
