Annoying problem with sound crackling and skipping

    Hi all,
I have read quite many posts so far regarding this issue in Windows 8. It Looks like they have overlooked the Sound skipping problem during playback on different programs and codecs. Whenever one uses Media Player, Spotify or any other audio programs the Sound skipps and crackles. It comes to the point when this is unlistenable any more. My System is definitely strong enough for handling Windows 8 Pro. I've been trying to use different methods like compatibilty installations , playback modifications , drivers etc. but nothing helps. When the system goes in high latency then the sound skipps. Do we need to wait for 64bit proper drivers for Windows 8 update or is there any other solution ? Thanks.

You say that you have installed the the latest drivers yes?
Where did you obtain these drivers did you go straight to you manufactures website normally under support?
Or where these just pre installed by Windows.

Also it might be worth installing the latests Chip-set driver for your system.
To my knowledge Sony has a programme that you can download from there support page that will install all the latest update for you.

Yes, I tried almost everything. Intel 945 chipset drivers, Sigmatel 64bit for Windows 7 etc. does not working. I think they need to put the update on Windows update or release 64bit sound drivers asap ?

Right as a far as I know Sigmatel is now called IDT, so you will be waiting a very long time for them to release any update!!!
Your best bet is to go on over to the IDT Audio, website and obtain a copy of there latest 64bit drivers and see if they will install on your machine.

I think I have finally found a solution for Windows Pro 8 64bit which in fact didn't need any solution probably hence the problems....( it works al least in 90 % let's say so... ). Ok now to the point. First of all ,after you do a clean install of Windows 8 64bit do not refer to any proprietary programs from previous version of any Windows. What I mean is this:

    1. Install a clean Windows
    2. Do not install anything what is regarding the computer function keys. I mean no additional software for FN keys ,brightness , volume, wireless switches etc. leave those !
    3. Do not install any new drivers for Windows 8 if the system had already found and installed their own from the disc. Anyway, most of these new Windows drivers like sound, controllers etc. are not ready yet for it.
    4. You will not need them because Windows 8 has it's own inbuilt functions for volume, brightness etc. so don't install any from the previous systems or the ones designed for laptops.
    5. Do not install any Antivirus for now as Windows 8 has its own inbuilt Antivirus program ! Let it run.
    6. In Device Manager please leave those devices with no drivers ! Do not force them to be updated online , now in most cases they will not be updated for Windows 8. The most important will be installed from the disc.
    7. If you must install any programs that were working fine in the previous versions do this only in compatibility mode.

It'll be working fine. It's a very nice and fast system. Very friendly and it can only get better , it's just too young for the drivers so now use it scarcely. There shouldn't be any high latency issues or sound skipping etc.

Try this out..thank guys for all the answers.

Glade you finally found the solution you had me searching the Microsoft Update Catalogue for the latest drivers lol.
Fresh install was on the tip of my tongue just don't like jumping straight to that option and let Microsoft do it's thing.
Yes no need for antivirus programme unless needed for specifics. Microsoft basic security is a wonderful little programme now they have combined defender with essentials.

Hi all. Coming back to this again. Please don't rely on the solution above. I wrote it works in 90% and that's true it doesn't work in 100%. The problem exists in all Windows 8 versions both 32 and 64 bit and it is a high latency issue. It looks like Windows 8 has been stripped of the most professional approach that Windows 7 or Vista have. So for now it is not recommended for users who want to get the most of it for music productions , media etc. Take a look in here. There needs to be a new service pack in order to sort it out. For now, there seems to be no solution unfortunately...

Search the web and you'll find at least as many complaints about high DPC latency in Windows 7...
