That's describing a specific issue with USB audio, which has nothing to do with DPC latency.

So this one doesn't mention USB audio...

And that one's talking about the Surface tablet, which is Windows RT (not 8) running on a specific hardware platform.

Google "Windows 7 DPC latency" and you'll get about 60K hits. Random pops and crackling have been a persistent issue since Windows 3.1...

P.S. I've been using Windows Vista Business for about 6 years I think...I never experienced popping or crackling sound issue in it also in windows 7 and there have been so many complaints about Vista, I always regarded both Vista and 7 as really stable and excellent systems. Though 7 and 8 have both much better design and interface than Vista.

Whether or not you experience sound issues depends on the sound card/audio chipset, the hardware configuration, what processes are running in the background, whether you're on battery or AC power, and 50 other variables besides the OS. Some do, some don't.

This is also worth trying if the option is available in your bios. Look for HPET (usually in power management section) and toggle it off or on depending on its current setting. Also, if available, set it to 32 or 64 bit to match the windows version you're running

Hi , the option in CMD didn't help...here is the explanation. All stuttering is the Windows' programming skeleton issue. It needs to be fixed through the Windows Update I guess:

I don't understand, are you saying windows 8 has higher latency than windows 7? If so that is not the case and if you are using DPC to check it i suggest switching LatencyMon which is compatible with win8 (DPC will give inaccurate readings in 8 that are much higher than they actually are). From my testing I have noticed that HPET enabled in the bios of my board produces vastly lower latency than disabled but I also think you might have to install windows with it enabled in bios for it to properly work.
On my system, with HPET enabled in bios latencymon shows 5-10 latency with periodic spikes to 800, just like it did in 7. With HPET disabled i get a solid 800 latency with spikes to 1100. I also use both x-fi and onboard realtek with out any issues at all

Thanks for suggestion. I don't have HPET option in my BIOS unfortunately so I tried to disable it in CMD. It didn't help. There's often a buzzing , stuttering sound popping out. All drivers have been updated and all devices. So I guess this has something to do with IDE ATAPI / DMA controllers.
