How do I close an applet?

So far, I really find Windows 8 very confusing.

If I select weather in the Start screen, it opens up the weather applet (or whatever is the proper name may be). How do I then close it? I can go back to start screen but the weather applet is still running in the background. What's the proper way to handle it?

Hello Sam, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The tutorial below can help show you how to completely close Store apps.

Apps - Close in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,

Technically, the apps suspend themselves after a few minutes except for certain coded ones.

Windows 8 is so simple,it can be confusing. Simple fix here, move your mouse pointer to the top of the screen, a little hand appears. Click, then drag your mouse you down. It's personally one of my favorite UI features of Wimdows 8.

Brink, thank you very much for your response. I do appreciate it.

Coke Robot, how come the little hand doesn't always come up. I know what you're talking about but I was in my browser i.e. Chrome and the little hand never came up.

The new way to close apps only pertains to the new, full screen immersive style apps such as Weather, Xbox Music, USA Today, News, IE 10 immersive, and the Windows Store along with the apps you can download and install from the Store.

On the Desktop, you can't close apps like that unfortunately. I'd had loved that personally, but the Desktop app windows act the same way as before. Technically, you can actually close the Desktop UI. You'd need to window the open apps you have, and make sure none are really touching the top of the screen. Move the hand to top, click and dray down the Desktop UI. This doesn't actually exit your apps you have though. This is there because if you're using several of the immersive apps, it clears a space for another app to switch to where the Desktop would take. Or, right now, I have Xbox Music running on my puter right now and I don't need the Desktop open, so only the Music app is running and open.

Hi Sam. Welcome to EightForums. I'm still a keyboard shortcut user. Alt/F4 still works as always. I'm looking forward for a touch screen so as to hardly ever use a mouse.
