Windows Home Server v1 client installed just fine...

I installed the 64bit version of the Windows Home Server v1 client on my Win8 PC last night and it installed just fine. The PC was backed up and the WHS console correctly shows the PC as "Win 8 Enterprise". I'll test the recovery functions this weekend and report back here. So far, so good!

WHS v1 works well with Win8 client

It works! The attached screenshot shows the Win8 client added and backed up. I restored a file yesterday and everything worked perfectly!

Windows Home server VERSION 1 is not available in 64bit, that is why I gave it away as my backup software. You either have Version 1 in 32 bit or Version 2 which is 64bit only

Yep, WHS v1 is 32bit, which has worked well for me since 2007, when it was 1st released by M$. I use old Dells and install 2GB of RAM and my server has 9TB (1x1TB system drive and 4x2TB data drives). I'll eventually buy an Intel D2700 board and add a SATA card for extra drives and build 1 64bit system around Windows Home Server 2011, but I really, really like the data redundancy feature that is included in V1 but not in V2. M$ killed off the product a few months ago and that's a shame. M$ wants us to buy the Essential Server for $1200, which really is a non-starter, especially since WHS V1 is less than $100 and WHS 2011 is $50.

Actually I read in an article somewhere that MS will be pushing Windows 8 as a replacement for WHS for home use, which is why it currently has Storage Spaces. Perhaps they will release an addon pack for the whole backup and management aspect of it.
