Solved Metro apps stopped working? Not all tho.

I installed my RTM Technet Win 8 pro as an upgrade of my Win 7 ult.

Everything was golden... For awhile.

After uninstalling some stuff that I wouldn't use/and or designed for tweaking Win 7, etc, some metro apps no longer work.

But.. Some do.

Example: Minesweeper works, but won't "login" to xbox live.
But, the store app, flashes up, drops back to start.

At one point, when doing all the installs and uninstalls, I disabled UAC, but when done, re-enabled it.

Would Avast Internet security mess with metro (or whatever it's called now) apps?

It was AVAST Internet Security.

BE careful uninstalling. It has keyboard hooks that don't uninstall......

I don't know if Avast disables the Windows Firewall, but it must be enabled for the Metro live apps and the store to be available.

It does because the Internet Security installs it's own.

Good to know. I see these issues posted all over various forums and on MS's site, and yours was the only realistic, reasonable answer. everyone else was saying rebuild..... (NOT an option right now in my case)

But your answer is spot on and I'll bet dozens of the others with same issue needs this fix!

Why should people bother installing antivirus when Windows 8 has one inbuilt. :/

Multiple reasons.

1. Traditionally defender has been pretty weak in the past.
2. Other apps provide more and enhanced features. IE spam block, ad block, stronger, more configurable firewalls.
