In Word, when writing in Hebrew, I can't enter nikud in the normal way, only from the numbers pad with ascii code.
this affects Word 2010 and Word 2013. I am running Windows 8 release preview 32 bit.
I tried reinstalling the drivers for my keyboard (microsoft multimedia), and it didn't help. Also the virtual keyboard could not produce the nikud

the answer is that in the default hebrew keyboard of windows8, the nikud keys work totally differently.
you can either learn the new system, which seems kind of random and annoying to someone who already learned the old way (you can get the new layout from Microsoft)
or... you can install "Hebrew (standard)" as your input method for your hebrew keyboard. This is not the default hebrew keyboard, you have to choose it manually as an input method.

Typing Hebrew nikud in Win8.1

Actually, I think it's the other way around, certainly in the Windows 8.1 that I am running. The default input method is "Hebrew (Standard)" which does not support nikud. One must change it to "Hebrew" (without the "Standard") to allow the traditional nikud input to function. The details for doing so are in the web page Typing Hebrew Vowels (Niqqud) in Windows 8 provided by Petri IT.

yes, things have changed a lot since windows 8 was in the preview edition.
microsoft israel got a lot of complaints, and eventually had to give people back what they were used to.
