Jeff, would it be easier just to search for unread messages? Outlook 2013 has a terrific search engine just above the folder list:

    Just a thought

If you click on your Folder tab and select New Search Folder you can select "Unread Mail" which will be added to your Search Folders at the bottom of your account folder list. Then right click the 'Unread Mail" and add to favorites, this way you can move it up next to your Inbox link. Now any new mail shows up there without you having to go looking for it in sub folders. Or click the Unread link as Johnpombrio mentioned.

    John,
I do not have any issues with the .pst files either, BUT when I create a new contact list IN Office 2013, try to use that in Office 2010 or 2007 THEN it does not word.

The Allread *all or Current Folder or Whatever does not show ANY mail and they are there.

As I stated, why can't MS show the unread items in the main folder, then one knows that he has to open THAT folder to see the messages in any subfolder. The main folder is marked to show all the unread messages, but no go.

Even if the Unread Search would work (which it doesn't), I do not want to take any action, I want the main folder to show the total of unread messages in that folder....all by itself.

Now for MS this is a peace of cake.....

Ok, I get what you're looking for now. The main folder does not show the count of emails that are in it's subfolders and if you don't have the main folder expanded then you won't see that you have emails in those sub folders which do have a count. So this isn't an Office 2013 issue it's just never been a feature of Office to display counts in this way. I still don't understand why the counts per folder matter but you must have a reason for it.

BTW, Unread Items does work. You can also modify the columns to display "In Folder" so that your list of new and unread emails will show which folder the email resides in. The only thing it doesn't do is a count but again I don't understand the need for it.

    hi Rob,

I tried the Unread items to see, but whatever I try....does not work. Remember I use subfolders.

Yes for me it is important to have the "unread emails" total in the main folder. Then I know where to look for for new mails.

Now I have to open over 100 subfolders to see if there are new mails.

And, it is not because MS never offered this option, that they should not offer this know.

I usually just use the Unread Mail tag under Favorites on the left side, shows the unread mail from all my folders/subfolders just fine.

Do you have your individual folders set up in seperate PST files by any chance? That may cause issues with the Unread Mail favorite, not 100% sure about that though.

As for the address book problem you're having, I'm not sure, we use Exchange, so our address books pretty much follow you around easily (same for mail, no matter what OS I'm in or version of Outlook I use, it's all just there).
