Looking for Program to Fit Files to Multiple DVDs

Hi. I'm looking for a program for Win 8 that can fit files and folders to multiple DVDs and minimize free space. It should be able to split folders but preferably not files. I'd like to avoid using an archiving program except for files that are larger than a DVD.

I tried some programs found online, but they can only split files while folders must stay intact. Others can only split one folder at a time. Finally, I tried the disc spanning feature in some burning software but they don't appear to be efficient in minimizing free space. I sampled one and for the first disc it used 4 GB. I did things manually and for the first disc I was able to use 4.475 GB.

I apologize if I misunderstand what you're wanting, however, I believe Macrium Reflect Pro may do what I believe you're wanting to do. There is a short learning curve, however, I think it can efficiently copy/span across DVDs. You might need the Pro pay-for, however, perhaps try the free version first. If it doesn't, please let me know, thanks!

Thanks. I would like to be able to access files directly from a particular disc, which means they should not be archived or split. I will have no choice, though, for files that are larger than a DVD.

    For example,

    Folder 1 has subfolders 1A and 1B
    Folder 2 has subfolders 2A and 2B

The program will take some files from, say, 1A and 2B, and put them in Disc 1, then take some files from 1A and 2A and put them in Disc 2, etc., all the while minimizing free space and maintaining the folder structures. If a particular file is too large to fit into a DVD, I'll use an archiving or backup program to split it.

I tried disc spanning in CDBurnerXP but the first disc contained only 4 GB. When I did things manually, I managed to fit around 4.4 GB in each disc. I also tried DiscFit, but I can't make it split up folder contents. I tried Folder Axe, but I could only split one folder at a time.

    Why DVDs? I'm curious.

From what I've found, "file and folder backup" is only available in the PAID version of MR. I tried to do that recently on a PC running the FREE version and that error message popped up.

It can be another medium and not necessarily DVDs. Some programs have preset formats or allow for manual storage size entry.

I'll have to check if some backup programs can store files in non-archived format.

For now, I am using DiscFit, but only for content with no folders.

An update: Sizeme also works, but oversized folders have to be clicked on manually.
