    Hello Don,

    It should say "Unknown application".

If needed, you can use the tutorial below to restore the default association of .bat files.

My W7 menu says for .bat - Unknown Application; not sure if that applies to W8+ or W10.

    Associate question

    In Default Programs,
Under Associate a file type or protocol with a program,
What should I put under Current Default for .bat?

If it no longer says unknown application -- that's where the .bat operations went awry. If I find the solution from awhile ago, I'll be back.

You can use the .reg file for .bat in the table below to set it back to default if so.

From Brink's excellent thread posted earlier.
The following is his bat.reg file.
Copy and paste the below into a text file, save as bat.reg, run bat.reg, accept the "warning and click yes.
[A Windows session restart might/might not be necessary.]

You can download and merge the .reg file for the .bat item in the tutorial below to restore the default association of .bat files.
