    8.1 Apps not working

    Hi everyone;

    A while ago I upgraded? to Windows 10, didn't like it and came back to Windows 8.1 The trouble is, now my apps don't work, period.

    I tried the Apps Trouble Shooter but very early in the Trouble Shooter is stopped and said "You need a Microsoft Account To Use the Trouble Shooter."

    Well, immediately before running the Trouble Shooter I did in fact sign in to my Microsoft Account so now I'm stumped.

    EDIT:
    I guess after returning to Windows 8.1 I no longer had a Microsoft account and so I created a new one and the Trouble Shooter worked. It did not however, repair anything. I've added a screen shot of the results page and am hoping someone can understand it and help me fix the apps on my 8.1 computer.
    END OF EDIT:

    Can someone here on the Forum help me with this mess? I'm not very technically inclined, I'm 70 years old and don't have that great comprehension that I had as a youngster so reading heavy technical jargon is a bit of a problem for me.

    Thank you for any help, and I do appreciate the time all you people spend here helping people like me.

    Well, I finally got the darn thing to run (the Trouble Shooter that is) but I just don't understand all the jargon and I am therefore unable to do anything with it.

    Is there anyone that would be willing to lay it out for me, step by step? I really hate to other you folks but I'm just stumped.

    Thank you for your time though, I truly appreciate it.

    You're welcome Bud, did it help, or are we going to have to do something else?

    There is a command for the Admin command prompt that "might" help too.

    Hello Cliff;

    Unfortunately it didn't Cliff but it did lead me to other areas where there were a lot of other "solutions", but none of them worked. I guess I'll just have to live without the apps perhaps. I thought to myself....... I've had computers for more than thirty years with never an app anywhere. Do I really need them now? Perhaps not.

    Thanks to things like texting and smart phones a lot of what I learned back in the early '90s when building computers and installing software that was called Programs we have morphed into Applications and finally shortened to Apps. With Windows 3.1 running on DOS then Windows 95 and later, I learned the Applets were things like what are found in the Control Panel, small programs used to do things.

    Not sure what you're telling me but is this something I should worry about or just forget about getting the "apps" back. After three days of searching, no one can tell me how to get them all back anyway without losing my programs.

    Thanks for the reply

    Hi Bud, sorry a bit late getting back. Can you open an Admin command prompt(right click windows icon and click it) and cut and past this in then re boot, run it on more time, reboot, and then see if your problem is solved;

    fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\&fsutil usn deletejournal /d /n c:&Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup&&sfc /scannow&Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth&sfc /scannow&Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase&pause

    It can take a long time depending on your hardware(HDD or SSD) and look like it has stalled, but just be patient an let it run through.

    Thank you very much Cliff, and please, no apologies. It is you who is helping me.

    I'm very sorry to be such a pain but what does all that "stuff" do when it is run? To a raw novice like me this stuff looks rather ominous. Just curious as to what it does.

    Just to be clear, all I want is for my apps to work, right? They were all there when I switched back from windows 10 but none of them (including the store app) didn't work after switching back.

    Thanks so much for going to all this trouble for me Cliff I really appreciate it. I also hope you don't mind me questioning it. I mean no disrespect.
