A program provided preinstalled by my laptop manufacturer is supposed to start at logon (but does not) from registry path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
such entry being made by the program install

Since the program does not start and sit in the system tray as it is supposed to I changed its registry start up to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Now it starts up perfectly. It also starts by placing a shortcut for it in startup and by task scheduler and of course manually

My question is to ask knowledgeable persons at this forum why this may happen at all and for any work around just in case

Thanks

You can avoid editing the registry by using my free RunIt utility to start any shortcut using the registry Run key. I have no idea why the setting was lost from the registry.
