Macrium 6 upgrade - Home Edition

    I have v-5 Standard Edition.
I can get v-6 Home Edition for 40% off.

Has anyone bought v-6 Home Edition ?

Have new options been added to make it worth the money ?
Does it make an image quicker ?

The version I have is paid for & works good, if a little slow.

My computer is only 1.4 GHz anyways.
    Slow.

I think support for v-5 has ended. ?
I get no more new updates available messages when I open it.

    Any input appreciated.

V5 has been very stable and good so I don't see why you need to upgrade. As far as speed goes, I don't see much improvement. I updated the free version in one machine to V6, it includes couple of features such as allowing you to create a dual boot and incremental backup which I don't use any of those. The other machine is still running V5 Pro.

When version 6 was on the way in I asked about upgrading my version 4.2 Standard. I was using v. 5 Free. I received a reply from sales that if I upgraded to v. 5 from 4.2, when v. 6 came out I could install the upgrade no charge. Later I got another note from Sales that if I liked I could upgrade to v. 6 Server Edition for the same price. Naturally I elected to go that route. From what I can see the features are very similar. But it does seem like the backups are a bit faster. The compression is about the same. Also there is supposed to be a feature to speed up restores by figuring out how to change the system to match the backup instead of just laying the image back on. I haven't tried any restore yet since I only have a Laptop and don't want to take the risk until I have no choice.

I have tried both Differential and Incremental backup with 6 Server. I like the time saving of the incremental. I won't know how smoothly the restore will got with multiple files until I have to do one though.

My impression is that the Free 6 has a nice set of features. I think I would choose between 6 Server and Free if money is not an issue. If on a budget I would likely go with the Free since they are even giving WinPE 5.0 with it these days.

    FYI,

I asked this question on the Macrium Forum several days ago.

Like many other software packages I assume when Windows 10 is finally released there will be some issues with V5 and Windows 10. Does anyone know if Macrium will address any such issues and correct any compatibility problems with V5 or will it be necessary to move to V6. I am a big fan of the Macrium product and use the paid version on multiple machines and I am just looking at the future because I would like to move to Windows 10 as soon as it is released.

and received this reply from Macrium Support which is very good news provided it really happens that way.

    Hi gator2013,

    Thanks for posting.

Reflect v5 does indeed play well with Windows 10. If any critical issues do arise they will be addressed accordingly.

Have you checked your eligibility for a special upgrade price to v6?

    Thanks for responses.

    I am still undecided.

They may reduce the price further as time goes on.

    I may get Windows 10.
Not July 29 but within a year.

Plenty of time to decide on getting both.

Also it doesn't hurt to drop a note to the Sales dept. They may still be very much in a generous promotional state of mind. I didn't ask them for any discount or freebie when I contacted them. They just asked if I wouldn't rather have the Server edition all things being equal.
