W8.1 PDF Reader Issues.

Has anyone found any problems with W8.1's inbuilt PDF reader. These screen shots show the problems I sometimes get. Now I've noticed I never seem to see this problem looking at the PDF 'online' such as from the original source but when saved and viewed later it can display like this. Its not just one odd file either, its many.

I find that scrolling down the open PDF and back again always changes the exact 'errors' seen. In other words its never the same twice on the open PDF as you scroll up and down, but it is always faulty. A discovery I made was that if I enlarge the PDF view using the bottom right - and + buttons then the problem seems to resolve.

It has happened on two W8.1 installs so not simply a corrupt Reader App (both installs on the same machine). The graphics driver is up to date too.

I've also attached a PDF at the bottom of this post that is of the kind that display these errors (its a just a technical data sheet) if anyone fancied trying it.

More than anything, I was just curious if others had encountered this effect ? I don't really want to start uninstalling and trying new drivers and apps and so on as I have found its possible to work around the problem.

I would be interested if others experience this issue though :)

Why not try a third-party PDF reader like Foxit or other? There are many, with more features than what comes with Windows.

That would certainly be one option but I like the convenience of having the inbuilt reader. Using the enlarge button definitely makes the file display normally but you shouldn't need to do this. The weird thing is that there is no consistency to the error. Its different every time and even seems to be influenced by the file content that was open before. Very odd.

I do not even bother with it. Foxit Reader, Adobe, or Nuance's reader, which is probably the best out there.

I have Chrome & Firefox to use a non embed PDF program. I do need to install Nuance for PDF editing.

If you want to use Metro/Start apps. Use Stardock software metromix. The only thing that we access in the desktop, which is a Metro app. Is Personalization. Otherwise Desktop mode 100%.

What makes Metro so hard. Is that it is heavily laden with depending on JavaScript, Flash, Silver light and Microsoft's .net.

Instead of fixing the problems. They are just go to sweep it under the rug and let 10 have them.

I am like the rest of the guys, I don't use it. I normally use Sumatra these days. Used to use FoxIt for a long time, but they were getting a bit out of hand sneaking crap into their installer.
