App Can't Run on Your PC

Hi, All

Newbie here, and to Win 8.1 as of last Monday.

I'm learning my way around, but have hit a snag.

I use Paint Shop Pro, ver X7, and ran it and all my plugins in Win 7 with no issues.

I find that in win 8.1, some of my plugins will not install.

I get the message "This app can't run on your computer", and to ask the software company for a newer version.

There is only one version of the software, and it's rather old.
However, friends of mine with the same system have had no problems with installing the plugins.

I did exempt psp from dep settings, as I know that has been an issue.
No luck with that.

Desperately seeking a solution~~Hope someone can help.

Thanks so much,
Pugster

Hello Pugster,

Older apps may not work properly in newer version of windows. In this case you have to run it in compatibility mode.

Right-click at the .exe file of the app you cannot open, click properties.

Then click compatibility.

Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose Windows 7.

Then try to run the program again.

Thank you, but had already tried that.
Didn't help.
When I clicked on "Test Program", nothing happened at all.
*sigh*

Hello,

What is your friend's OS version? And try check for viruses with your AV programs to make sure there is no viruses in your PC, then try to install it again.

Her system is exactly the same as mine.
I use Emisoft. Ran it, no problems. Disabled it and tried the install again.
No go.
I think I'll just chalk it up to Windows 8.1 gremlins and call it a day.
Thanks for the suggestions, tho.
Appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Hello,
Does your antivirus block the app? Do you allow it to run through windows firewall?

Hi there

What are these particular plugins that won't install ?
I may be able to try them out on my machine to see if the problem applies to Win 8.1 in general or just your setup.

Hi there

Note: I'm running 8.1 in a virtual machine and using PSP X.
I had trouble finding a copy of Eye Candy 3.1 to install although Eye Candy 4000 installed no problem.
Eventually came across Eye Candy 3.1 here ..
Filtres pour paint shop pro et Photoshop
Downloaded the zip file and extracted it into C:\Users\yourname\My Documents\My PSP Files\Plugins.
You should create the above folder if it doesn't already exist.
Then make sure in PSP that you go to File .. Preferences .. File Locations .. Plugins and add that location to the top of the list.
Tried Eye Candy 3.1 and it worked OK, no problems.

Let us know how you get on.
