launching Win8 apps from a simulated desktop app

We have an application that simplifies the Windows interface for people with intellectual disability--a button launcher so to speak that can be used launch videos, web sites, RSS feeds, files, apps, etc. from single click picture buttons. The problem is we have a button type to launch .exe files, but Windows 8 apps (like Cloud Raiders or Win8 Skype) don't seem to have a .exe file? Or can I just not find it? Thanks, I am more of a research person than a technical person so hope this is enough info
