Doesn't really matter as you can not run them from Windows Explorer or with commands. They're in various locations. Store is in one others are another. \Program Files\Windows Apps which is denied access by default, with good reason. \Windows\WinStore

The primary installation points for Metro Packages are:

Application code and content and resource files - %ProgramFiles%\WindowsApps
Application Manifests/database of installed applications - %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\AppRepository
Application settings and data storage - %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages

Metro apps are aspx scripts (.xml) that pull in data from online and/or local sources, and use dot net functionality, runtimes, libraries, etc. As such there is no compiled executable file in a single location as you would find in traditional applications.

Will we ever be able to pick where these install.....what if you are running a SSD and do NOT want any programs located on the C drive. I want to pick where I put all the programs.

I don't know where they're stored, but I can find them. :) While on the Start Page, go to the bottom right corner and right click. You will see a little circle with three tiny squares with lines beside them inside it. Underneath it says "All apps". Click on the circle and you'll see everything installed on your computer, a lot of it irrelevant, to my mind. MS Office has 15 little blocks when all I want to see are the main apps, what, five? But I digress . . .

Once you're in there, you can right click on something and "Unpin from Start" and a trashcan appear. Click on the trashcan and it will ask if you want to uninstall, if I remember correctly. Be very careful while you're in there, since so many of those "apps" are most likely essential to running Windows 8. Then again, Microsoft wouldn't really allow us to delete/uninstall something all that important . . . would they? :what:

Anyhow, maybe you can figure out what you wanted to know from there. I surely can't. :geek:

First, from what Ive been able to find out....you can only install them on the C drive where the os resides. They are NOT the old .exe executable type programs anymore. they become part of the OS and need to be where the os is. They are completely different type of things and dont mess with the files. Dont think they are something you can drag and drop anymore.

Its a complete cluster.....and maybe can be fixed in the big upcoming BLUE upgrade coming to all the Win 8 stuff....both for the desktop and the Winphone 8 and the Tablets so they can all run the same apps.

But if you are using a Solid State Drive for the os on C drive....you will soon run out of disc. A complete disaster after MS pushed everyone to start using these SSD .

With regular old Desktop type programs you can pick an choose where they are installed...but you can not with the new hokey Metro apps. Right now they are required to be installed on the C drive only with the OS. Not good and needs to be changed. Horrible concept. If you have a solid state drive for the OS, you are hosed. It will soon be filled up.
