Hey Everyone,
I'm New to windows 8.1 (also haven't had a computer in a while)

Just put my new rig together and was looking for recommendations to must have applications on a new computer.

I'm definitely in need of one to show fan speed and internal temperature
but all suggestions are welcome :D

A couple of recommendations first.

Create your initial rescue media on either DVD's or a USB if you have not done so already.

Make sure Restore Point (System Protection) is turned on and functioning.

Formulate a back-up strategy for you personal files as well as your Operating System.

Here are a couple for temps. I am sure there are more comprehensive apps available but these are very basic but will tell you the basics. Core Temp does not show fan speed while HWMonitor does and much more.

Core Temp

HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID

I think Apps are more personal preference and I kind-of lump them into at least 2 categories, Operational and Entertainment.

As for Operational Items, these are some things I install right away on a new system.

Macrium Reflect- Free or Paid version (Back-up System Image Creation)

Malwarebytes - Free or Paid version (Malware Scanner)

REVO Uninstaller - Free or Paid version ( Comprehensive Program/Application Uninstaller)

Adobe PDF Reader - Free

As for entertainment, well to each their own but I always install Google Earth and now you can get the paid version, Google Earth Pro for free.

Have Fun!
