Malware that causes you to lose data is excluded, not included.

And yes, Calico, once again you prove your intelligence. It is a matter of principle with me. There is no such thing as "non-intrusive advertising" despite Dmitry's claim otherwise.

And I caught the maker of SAS in a lie about Malwarebytes, called him on it in another forum, he tried to dispute it then gave up.
Oooh juicy news! I use Adblock Plus and don't know the inside story about what you guys are talking about. The SAS stuff sounds cool also! I understand the statement now thanks GMan!

    Sure, you're welcome.

Slightly confused before though - I meant Wladimir, not Dmitry.

It's not terribly interesting news really. With version 2 of Adblock Plus, Wladimir Palant the creator of the addon, added a feature called Non-intrusive advertising. Basically, by default, Adblock Plus started allowing certain types of adverts by default. A lot of people got quite upset about this and some went as far as to create forks of the code without this feature (Trueblock Plus/Adblock lite) even though disabling the feature is a single click option. As I mentioned earlier, those who complained, felt somewhat betrayed and now won't use Adblock Plus out of principle. You can read more Non-intrusive ads proposals and I'm sure if you search a little you'll find lots more.

By the way, the developer of Trueblock Plus is suggesting people now use Adblock Lite as he doesn't have the time to develop Trueblock. Personally, I still use Adblock Plus, as I really don't see what all the fuss is about. I guess some would say it's a matter of principle...
Calico, you don't run realtime AV, so you aren't using WD or MSE? Is there a way that you can explain it in simple terms the reasoning for this choice of yours. You are obviously knowledgeable but I can't fathom your reasoning...

It's simple really, I just don't feel the need and I'm not totally convinced they're even necessary, providing one doesn't do anything stupid. I've been online, one way or another, since 1979 and I've never had 'real-time' AV installed, I've also never had any malware. For a while, I had MBAM/SAS/HitmanPro installed as on-demand only and for best part of a year I scanned twice a week, they never found anything. I added several other 'anti-malware' tools to the mix and they also never found anything.

Basically, I'm confident that by using firefox with NoScript/Request policy and common sense I can avoid malware. It's not necessarily something I'd advocate for everyone but it works for me.

Ya, a major beef with "simply clicking the box" to disallow is machines I admin that I don't have or want access to all the time, like at my brother's house.

He (my bro) has no clue of plugins, how they work and whatnot. And of course, the plugin allows it at default until I get there to fix it.

And then there is the issue of - if he controls which ads are allowed, what is he going to allow next that I don't agree with and how much money is he on the take for? My machines don't exist to be money makers for him.

You got me beat by 3 years. 300 Baud and Compuserve, IIRC! I find your response refreshing and you obviously have been at it awhile. I try not to do anything stupid..... But I have had my Aunt's email attacked and her address book compromised, so I got attacked then, it was caught. I admire your stance and wish you well. Bravo

I went into Services and killed the process and disabled the start of SAScore. It persistently haunts me still. I use it occasionally to double check antimalwarebytes. Any assistance is appreciated!

The entry that affects SAS startup can be found at:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Removing the entry from this location will prevent SAS starting with Windows for the current user. For removing startup and other entries, try Autoruns It's a lot better than CCleaner for this purpose.
It is not there? Going to try Auotoruns!

Check the same place for Local Machine. If 64 bit, could be in SysWow key.
