Somehow I have this program "Driver Update" on my computer & it interferes with every time IK want do with files.
I have tried every method to delete it & am blocked!
ANY program that does that is BAD & has other intentions other than helping!

Does anyone know how to get rid of it!

Why would I use another FREE program which could be just like the one I have now!

I WILL NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING THAT IS NOT FROM A WELL KNOWN VENDOR!

I might be dumb, but I am not stupid!

Why does the FORUM allow these kind of ADDS?

If you won't take the advice of members when they suggest a utility that might solve the issue, then I don't know what to tell you.

Emmisoft and Malwarebytes are well respected and trusted vendors.

Members go out of their way to remind you to check for cross marketing in the installers of free programs
Always read the install screens and remove the checkmark from boxes offering extra software.

The forum has to pay for servers and bandwidth. The help members provide is free.
Would you prefer to be charged directly?

Driver Update is a bit ambiguous. Since I would ask you to download a utility that would tell me more about the appicaitons on your system or advise you to download and run a different scanner - I'm at your 'mercy' for information.

Tell me everything you know or can find out about software installed and running on your system.

Fill in your system specs so I know what hardware you have - there is a Driver Update for Intel components.

But I have to tell you, I won't be able to help unless you help too. 20 questions is the worst way to troubleshoot an issue.

You decide if you trust members or if you don't trust members. You decided if you install the extra software that comes with free application or if you're attentive enough to unselect those things.

You'll have to figure out that you came here for help and accept the help being offered - or not to accept the help.

So, just What do you have now ? Obviously you have some unwanted software you want to get rid of. Good wish is not going to do it, you need something to truly uninstall it since you were silly enough to install it.
Programs we suggested to you are not from some unknown vendor even if YOU don't know them and certainly are not ADDs, nobody here sells them and nobody is pushing them on you.
So go and consult an oracle or pay tribute to gods of software, maybe that would help. Good luck.

HELP!

Sorry!

I am 86 & a little grumpy at times!

I have been in computers before there were computers!
I try my best to have the very latest technology in the Internet of Things!
I have a Windows Phone, which is great for tracking bus info!
My Broadband is 20 up & 200 down. My Broadband box contains the modem & TV system.
All my TVs & computers are connect by cat6 cable.
One of my desktops runs Win10 Beta!
I have my own 4TB WD Cloud.
I just finished building an ASUS desktop with a 480GB SSD.

My first home computer was a Radio Shack TRS-80. Had 2 5-1/4 floppies & ran MS DOS & a cassette recorder for storage!

I am no novice & DO make mistakes!

Mistakes

Tully AGAIN:

I just logged onto my Win10 Desktop & received a notice that my JAVA script needed updating.

OK, JAVA script is an important part of everyday computer usage.

I pressed update & a screen came up & had several choices to make;

Do you want to keep Internet explorer as you Internet browser?
Do you want to keep Bing as your internet search engine?

I clicked yes to both!

Downloaded the java script update, restarted my computer and

LOW & BEHOLD a NEW Search engine was new HOME PAGE!!!

Notice it never ask me about my Home Page!

WAS THIS A SILLY MISTAKE!

Why was this positive negative even on the download site!

We all make mistakes, that's not the point. The point is that nobody here, specially more experienced user are going to suggest anything as bad as you thought we did.
I'm not spring chicken either although almost 10 years younger. Have also been in the "computers before there were computers", my first electronic one was a Heathkit that I had to assemble (including a lot of soldering), didn't even have display, printer only and switches instead of keyboard. Next was Timex-Sinclair etc. "computers before there were computers" that I worked on and programed were pegboard programed controls for automatic machines. Never in my life I have bought a complete computer, all were put together by me.
Put together, repaired and fixed Os and software on hundreds of computers and still can't say that I know everything and never refuse to at least consider friendly advice.

Well, that post made me laugh, thanks Tully

I'm a big grumpy at times too ;)

I have been in computers before there were computers!

My first home computer was a Radio Shack TRS-80
I almost bought one of those - quite expensive, so I went with a Zenith kit.

I thought you might just be kicking yourself for letting Driver Update get on your system - it happens.

No harm, no foul - now I'll read the rest of the thread to see where the issue stands.

Yeah, methinks you're digging a deeper hole.

Java script and Java are different - you probably know that and just misspoke.

I can't ever recall Java script needing updating - it's part Windows or the browser.

The fact that your search engine and home page were changed leads me to think that driver update called some friends over to your machine and they're have the time of their life changing things.
In other words, malware is probably on your system.

Let me ask this: Did you try the Clean Start (change System Configuration (msconfig)) I suggested earlier?
Please do that and then run Malwarebytes scanner:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free - Windows 7 Help Forums

You'll have to download the scanner though ;)

If you get stuck, ask a question ... I know the guy who wrote the tutorial.

Not to confuse you Tully, but I'd like to add that updating java without Deselecting the extra software it installs can and will change your search engine. See this about the 'deceptive' java practices: A close look at how Oracle installs deceptive software with Java updates | ZDNet

And no, Java is very much not needed any longer. Most programs no longer use it (if they do, they'll install it for you), and the US government itself recommended against its use, because of the increased likelihood of infections using it to get on your computer. Don't believe it? Look it up!

Just a suggestion; try using Advanced Systemcare (free) from www.iobit.com. I've been using it for over 10 years (I've bought the paid version but the free version is very good too) and it's worked very well for me. It has a one-button "fix-all" as well as another tab that you can pick and choose which Tools you want to run including Start-up options and an option to block any website or download/install that attempts to change your homepage. There is also another very good free program from Iobit called Driver Booster. It's only been out for about 2 years now but so far it works very well for keeping my drivers updated and easy to install.

That's one program and one developer I wouldn't touch with 10 foot pole, even on this forum there were few examples where it made a mess of a system to say nothing about difficulties of getting rid of it.

:ditto:
I used to play around and try the different "System Optimizers" (IOBIT, Wise ;Glary...etc.) on my laptop before I bought my first SSD (when I only had a 5400rpm HDD) and they worked for maybe a week or two then...all hell would break loose and I would have to reimage(why reinstall?) and for all of them it was what I thought: Never ever ever give your system over to a program that "optimizes. One only needs a good cleaner and maybe an uninstaller(also no guarantees here), but the other crap can stay off my system.

Moral of my experience "Let Windows take care of Windows" . For everything else ask.

Very true. Windows has come a long way in how it handles itself. However, if YOU install freeware and do not remember to uncheck the box that installs the toolbars and search engines, then YOU are responsible for what you've put on your own computer. If you do forget to uncheck the boxes, it is a simple matter of removing those PUPs. Believe it or not, but Windows also prevents unintended installations... you're the one who clicks the yes button to continue on:
