Using "banned" applications when UAC disabled

I disabled UAC through HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\EbableLUA=0x00. I don't care about being unable to run the MS Apps, but I want to run programs like Acrobat. Win 8.1 won't let me run Acrobat by double clicking a PDF, although I can open it from a shortcut. Any fix for this? Thanks.

Per chance....are you referring to "Acrobat Reader"?

If you are, I 86'd (deleted) that POS several years ago. It got so huge it was monstrous!!!

I and all my customers now use "Foxit Reader". Smaller, faster, and it's not growing exponentially.

Good Luck!

??? Have you gone into file associations, and made Acrobat the default program to Open PDF files?

When I first started using Windows 8 and later 8.1, I had to do that with several programs.

Just a thought.

That was it!! You're correct, Acrobat somehow wasn't associated with PDFs. It still seems strange as to why I wasn't allowed to pick a default app and got the UAC notice.
