Solved can't get Belarc Advisor to install on Win 8.1

Hi,

For the record I am using Win 8.1 on an HP Pavilion 23-g017c All-in-one computer with IE 11 and using Zone Alarm Antivirus and Firewall (Free).

I just purchased this computer a few weeks ago and I am brand new to this operating system as well having used Windows 7 for the last few years.

I downloaded and installed Belarc Advisor about a week ago and ran one profile. Then I somehow managed to delete the program or I thought I did.

Anyway to make a long story short I have been trying to install it again the last few days and I can't seem to do it. Each time I start the install a screen pops up and says it is "waiting for the uninstall of a previous version" and then it just sits there and doesn't do anything.

When I go to Event viewer it says: "The program Uninstall.exe version 0.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed."

When I do a search of My PC it doesn't find any mention of Belarc Advisor.

Any ideas?

Thanks and regards,
2harts4ever

  1. Any time you uninstall an application, you should go thru the "Programs & Features" and uninstall from there. Don't just delete the files.
  2. Any time you install some application, you should temporarily disable Anti Virus software & allow firewall to do its things, don't block.

Having said that, you can try to delete the whole folder where the leftover of Belarc software is in. Probably under C:\Programs Files (X86)\Belarc or C:\Programs Files (X86)\Belarc then download CCleaner portable and clean the registry. Next, right click on Belarc installer and run as Admin.

Morning topgundcp,

I just did everything you suggested. This time it looked like it was installing Belarc files but for what it is worth that message that it "was waiting for uninstall of previous version" did not display on the screen.

However, when it was trying to load my computer profile it got to 54% completed and just quit. I looked in my event viewer and there was nothing connected with the attempted install.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks and regards,

Can you check if there's any restore point created prior to deleting Belarc ?
Win+X->Control Panel->Recovery->Open System Restore
If so, try to restore your PC.

Hi topgundcp,

I probably do. I am on my way out the door for church services. I'll check it out later this afternoon and post the results.

I will delete Belarc from my last try last night by using Add/Remove programs prior to doing the restore unless I hear from you prior to me trying it.

Thanks and regards,
2harts4ever

Yes, you can try from: Win+X->Program & Features and uninstall from there or you can also download a trial version of Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs easily, Forced Uninstall, Leftovers Uninstaller, Portable Uninstaller
This version does a better job to uninstall & cleanup the registry than the Windows built in uninstaller.

If it still does not work then try to do System Restore.

Hi topgundcp,

Just wanted you to know I finally got Belarc Advisor up and running. :thumb:

I did a System Restore prior to the time I originally tried to install it. However, the Restore failed -- probably an anti-spyware program according to the fail message. Sure enough I forgot to turn off my Zone Alarm.

Then I decided to try the Restore in Safe Mode and discovered it wasn't near as easy to get in Safe Mode as it was in Windows 7. After searching the web for about half an hour I finally figured it out.

To make a long story short ... it worked. The restore was successful and my next try at installing and running Belarc was too!

Just wanted to say thanks for your patience and expertise.

Thanks and Regards,
