Hi I am not sure if this belongs on this thread and I have seen possible solutions but I don't know if they are what I need for my issue.
I have a Windows 8.1 Desktop (HP) and not an upgrade from Windows 8 (I don't think so at least).
Every so often I can not open the tiles.
Instead it tries to open and maybe the top bar appears then it will return to the home page where the tiles and apps are. T
he Mail tile (Hotmail) is usually the one I open and that will either attempt to open but won't work or just not open.
I can get onto the desktop from the desktop tile and I have noticed the mail tile icon is on the task bar of the desktop. When I click on the icon it won't open.
I then try other tiles, including the live ones which are updating the news etc but they will not open. These icons also appear on the desktop tool bar.
I have only found that restarting the PC allows me to get the tiles/apps open.
Luckily each time I have restarted the tiles work as expected.
I have seen problems others have with tiles not opening and the issue seems to be something to do with going from Windows 8 to 8.1 and I bought the PC with 8.1 installed.
The issue occurred again on Sunday 9th November, the day before it was fine.
Before I tried to open the tile, there was a java update required and I ran that - not sure if thats connected to it.
With the icons appearing on the desktop although still not opening I am not sure whether the tiles are opening but not completely or it is something more serious than that.
Any assistance in trying to resolve this is greatle appreciated.
